This Week's discovery: Ibeyi

This French duo formed by twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz delivers amazing creations to its listeners, fusing a combination of different elements such as jazz, complex rhythmic beats played with the traditional Peruvian/Cuban percussion cajón and Batá drum, samples and popular instruments.

Their music can be categorized as wave but its influenced and enriched by so many things that its hard to put them under one specific genre or style.

Dauthers of a famous Cuban percussionist Anga Díaz and a French-Venezuelan singer Maya Dagnino, they sing in English, French, Spanish and Yoruba which is also their religion and a big part of their musical and cultural heritage.

Coming from a very educated background were literature, music, art and history were a big part of their family, their music is filled with literary quotes, poetry and important personal experiences they´ve had in their life.

Songs such as ¨River¨ and ¨Deadless¨ shows us their genius musical work combined with truly contemporary art displayed in their videos, this sisters are able to successfully merge all the cultural, musical and artistic influences they have and create an original and beautiful work of their own.
